BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY:
Provide Spanish interpretation for ARD committee meetings, parent conferences, and assessments for Special Education programs. Provide translation of documents for the Department of Special programs, including IEP documents, assessment documents, and department communication publications.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of District, campus, and classroom policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Special Education terminology
  • Fluent Spanish speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities
  • Skill in utilizing electronic systems to locate and submit data/information
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Skill in operating standard computer and software applications
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work responsibilities
  • Ability to utilize basic office equipment, including fax, copier, scanner, computer, etc.
  • Proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, and operating computer software
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing


Experience:

  • Three (3) months of related experience


CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Support:

  • Provide translation of instructional materials.
  • Provide translation of assessment materials/information used for the identification and further evaluation of students.


Student Support:

  • Assist in resolving parent/student issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with families in both Spanish and English at the request of Special Programs Department staff.


Support of Administrative, Fiscal and/or Facilities Functions:

  • Prepare correspondence, forms, reports, etc., for the department and other staff members using personal computer.
  • Translate documents into Spanish for the Department through the use of computerized technology.
  • Maintain physical and computerized departmental files.
  • Maintain student records as needed.
  • Attend ARD meetings, parent meetings, and community meetings to provide interpretation services.
  • Prepare supporting documents for IEP meetings, parent conferences and meetings in Spanish.
  • Translate required components of IEP documents into Spanish.


Organization Improvement:

  • Assist in developing policies and procedures for the Department of Special Programs and Services.
  • Assist the Department of Special Programs in essential functions and project completion.


Professional Growth and Development:

  • Keep informed of and comply with all state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
  • Keep informed of Special Education terminology in both Spanish and English.
  • Attend department and campus meetings as required by Department Administrative staff.
  • Attend training as determined appropriate by Department Administrative staff.


School/Community Relations:

  • Provide Spanish interpretation for community meetings, published documents, and IEP meetings to increase collaboration with Spanish-speaking families.
  • Meet and greet customers in person and over the phone, including Spanish-speaking families/visitors.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and other documents to department staff.
  • Receive, store, issue supplies and equipment.


Organization Morale:

  • Participate in team building activities and the decision-making process as appropriate.
  • Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information according to the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Positively communicate and represent the District and Department vision/mission.


Other Responsibilities:

  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to State Board of Education and local Board policy.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Lifting: Light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds)
  • Environment: Occasional districtwide and statewide travel; some prolonged or irregular hours
