BASIC

FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY : Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing of classroom activities.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education / Certification :

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide certificate

Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Ability to work well with children
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
  • Experience :

  • Some experience working with children

    Instructional Support :

  • Provide instruction to students under the direction of teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Student Management :

  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Professional Effectiveness :

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district policies and procedures pertaining to the job assignment.

    MENTAL DEMANDS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS :

  • Tools / Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers : automated external defibrillator (AED)]
  • Posture : Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling / squatting, bending / stooping, pushing / pulling, and twisting
  • Motion : Frequent walking
  • Lifting : Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
  • Environment : Work inside, may work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); regular exposure to noise
  • Required by Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for aides who are providing instructional support in Title I, Part A program.
  • Salary : $13 - $21
