Bastrop Veterinary Hospital is looking for a hard working, enthusiastic, skilled technician to join our team. Full-time and part-time will be considered. Bastrop Veterinary Hospital is a locally-owned and operated mixed animal veterinary hospital in historic Bastrop, TX. Our 7-doctor practice is well established, fast-paced, and growing quickly. We are expanding our team to keep pace with the increasing Bastrop area pet population.
We are looking for a hardworking candidate who prioritizes excellent patient care, exhibits strong customer service, demonstrates integrity, and is willing to grow their skills.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Being responsible for client interactions in the clinic and exam rooms
- Obtain a concise, yet detailed medical history and pets’ vital signs
- Manage hospitalized and boarded patients
- Assist veterinarians with the practice of veterinary medicine
- Appropriately and confidently handle animals
- Draw blood for laboratory testing
- Feel comfortable running diagnostic tests including bloodwork, fecals, and urinalysis
- Preparing for, assisting, and recovering surgeries
- Help take, develop, email, and upload CR radiographs
- Provide excellent customer service for our clients and their pets
- Answer phone calls and assisting clients pet questions
- Act as a liaison between clients and our veterinary team. Connects clients with other team members to facilitate answers to questions.
- Communicate protocols and recommendations from our veterinary team to clients
- Troubleshoots, handles, and follows up on problems as they present. Seeks assistance with solving problems as necessary while taking responsibility for facilitating the outcome.
- Tackling other projects as assigned
While training is available, a good basic knowledge is essential. Technicians need to also familiarize themselves with Cornerstone software as they may be asked to help update patient records, respond to or forward emails, prepare documents for clients and other veterinary offices, and process payments after business hours.
Qualifications:
- Friendly and hard-working attitude
- Punctuality and motivation important
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least one year of veterinary technician experience preferred
- Certificates and licensing for veterinary technicians prioritized
- Work efficiently in a busy hospital environment. Must be able to manage multiple clients at one time
- Maintain calm demeanor during emergency situations. Demonstrate compassion
- Tech savviness essential as records and appointment scheduling is digital
- Must have a pleasant presence in person with clients and on the phone
- Effective communication skills
- Must be able to life over 40 lbs
- Position requires being on your feet for extended periods of time.
Hours:
- The position requires a mix of opening and closing shifts (office hours are 7am to 6pm M-F and 8-12 Sat)
- Required to work every other Saturday (office hours are 8am-12pm)
- Shared holiday shifts to assist with hospitalized and boarded animals
