Overview
Bastyr University seeks a dynamic and experienced IT Director to lead and oversee all aspects of the university's information technology operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative IT strategies that align with the university's academic mission and strategic goals. This role will involve managing a diverse team of IT professionals, overseeing critical IT infrastructure, and ensuring the security and reliability of the university's technology systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic IT Leadership:
- Develop and implement an IT vision and strategic roadmap that aligns with Bastyr University's goals, particularly enhancing educational delivery and administrative efficiency.
- Provide leadership to the IT team, promoting innovation and technology adoption to support educational outcome.
- Act as a liaison between IT services and the university leadership, faculty, staff, and students to ensure alignment with institutional needs.
- Systems Administration & Cybersecurity:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the university's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and storage systems.
- Lead cybersecurity initiatives to protect sensitive university data and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Develop policies and procedures for system integrity, including data privacy and disaster recovery plans.
- Technical Support:
- Manage the Technical Support team to ensure timely and effective support for faculty, staff, and students.
- Collaborate with academic departments to identify and implement technology solutions that enhance teaching and learning.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of helpdesk resources to enhance service quality and response time.
- Drive the adoption of best practices for resolving IT issues and promoting self-service support where possible.
- Data & Integration Development:
- Lead the Data/Integration Development team, focusing on data integration, analytics, and support for various administrative and academic system.
- Support data-driven decision-making through effective management of data architecture and integration solutions.
- Drive projects related to data system enhancements, ensuring cross-system integration and the integrity of data.
- Learning Management System (LMS) & Curriculum Design Support (This will be a great plus)
- Oversee the management and optimization of the LMS, ensuring its effective use to support curriculum delivery.
- Collaborate with academic stakeholders to ensure that LMS tools align with instructional design needs and support innovative pedagogical approaches.
- Lead initiatives to integrate emerging technologies that enhance teaching and learning experiences.
- Ensure API integration between the LMS and other educational tools to enhance the user experience and streamline curriculum design processes.
- Team Management and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop IT staff across the four departments to foster a collaborative and effective working environment.
- Develop training programs and professional development initiatives to keep the IT team updated on new technologies and methodologies.
- Budgeting and Vendor Management:
- Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality IT services.
- Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with external vendors and service providers.
Qualifications

- Education: Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in IT leadership roles, preferably in a higher education setting or similar environment.
- Technical Skills: Experience in system administration, network security, LMS management, data integration systems, and API development.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing multiple IT functions and leading a diverse team.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Benefits:
All regular employees (faculty and staff) who work at least 20 hours a week in a permanent position are full benefits eligible.
