Title : Carpenter

Position Purpose :

Executing all varieties of carpentry-related construction, maintenance, renovation, and repair projects on campus, using high quality carpentry skills.

This position may be considered "Essential Personnel" in the event that :

  • An emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates
  • Inclement weather forces the closing of campus
  • Other emergency events deemed appropriate.

Job Duties :

  • Coordinate all carpenter work with other building trades
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Communicate well with all customers and understand their needs
  • Make sketches of objects to be built in the carpenter shop and installed throughout the campus buildings
  • Operate all carpenter related equipment
  • Perform all carpentry related functions
  • Complete work orders and PM (Preventive Maintenance) activities
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade school diploma or other carpentry credentials desired.
  • Experience

  • 5 years of residential and / or commercial building experience.
  • Ability to work with wood, metal, or materials necessary for fabrication, repair, and renovation of all buildings.
  • Knowledge of tools, building supplies, and hardware associated with building trade.
  • Computer experience and ability to understand CAD drafting uses and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of roofing, concrete work, window, and door installation also desired.
