Title: Second Cook

Position Purpose

Staff holding a second cook position primarily work in student dining providing approximately 5000 meals per day to the students, faculty, staff and guests of the college who dine in Commons. They are also called upon to prepare items for catered events as needed.

This position may be considered "Essential Personnel" in the event that:

  • An emergency occurs on the Bates campus or in the vicinity that would impact Bates
  • Inclement weather forces the closing of campus
  • Or other emergency events deemed appropriate

Job Duties

  • Ability to perform the following duties, which may include but are not limited to, preparing student meals, preparing catered events, and assisting in other areas as needed.
  • Follow standardized recipes.
  • Ensure proper production records are maintained.
  • Ensure proper sanitation standards are maintained.
  • Display a pleasant demeanor and helpful attitude, while also maintaining the highest levels of customer service.
  • Promote and value diversity and practice two-way communication.
  • Attend monthly Dining, Conferences and Campus Events town meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Culinary degree or equivalent combination of education and experience desired.
  • Must have or be able to pass Serve Safe certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years' experience in an institutional or high volume full service food operation required with a demonstrated forward professional progression.
  • Previous experience in a high volume collegiate setting desired.

Skills and Knowledge
