What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) position at Bates County Memorial Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Laboratory, Lead Tech , other Medical Laboratory Scientists, and Medical Laboratory Technician-II the Medical Laboratory Scientist performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing. Collects, identifies, and distributes patient specimens in accordance with workload requirements. Performs routine technical, clerical, and cleaning tasks within the laboratory. Performs point of care testing and other technical procedures related to patient care as part of a multi-skilled effort. Performs analysis requiring complex network of steps and variables, troubleshoots problems with equipment and procedures. Confirms and verifies laboratory results utilizing knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments. Performs quality assurance and quality control as assigned.
Hours and Schedule:

Day Shift:
- Usually, three twelve-hour shifts 0600-1830, 0700-1930, or 0800-2030.
- Usually rotates every third Saturday night shift 1830-0630 or rotates Saturday and Sunday 0630-1830. If rotating weekend day shifts may work every other or rotate the opposite weekends with the other techs, as frequently as every fourth weekend.

Note – Day shift personnel work night shifts whenever needed due to time off needs of night shift personnel (illness, vacation, etc.).
Night Shift:
- Usually, three twelve-hour shifts 1830-0630 or four ten-hour shifts 1930-0530.
- For 12-hour shift schedules: Usually every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday or Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday or Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 1830-0630.
- For 10-hour shift schedules: Usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 1930-0530.
