A Commercial Plumbing Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a plumbing service department or company. They will have the opportunity to build out this team and make it their own! Their duties include managing staff, ensuring excellent customer service, handling budgets, and guaranteeing that plumbing services are performed efficiently and meet industry standards. Below is a summary of the key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:
Key Responsibilities
- Hire, train, and assess plumbing technicians and other staff members.
- Address customer complaints and resolve issues promptly and professionally.
- Oversee the scheduling and coordination of plumbing services, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Provide accurate quotes and estimates and keep customers informed throughout the service process.
- Track and manage inventory of plumbing materials, tools, and equipment.
- Manage departmental budgets and make cost-effective decisions to enhance profitability.
- Prepare financial reports and monitor revenue, expenses, and overall performance.
- Ensure the team meets performance targets and revenue goals.
- Ensure plumbing services adhere to local building codes, safety standards, and company guidelines.
- Conduct regular quality inspections of completed jobs.
- Ensure tools and equipment are well-maintained and functioning properly.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to encourage repeat business.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities
- Ensure that effective emergency procedures are in place and communicated to staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED: The minimum educational requirement.
- Associate’s Degree or Vocational Training (Optional): Some candidates may have formal training in plumbing, business management, or construction management.
Professional Certifications and Licensing:
- Licensed Plumber: Hands-on plumbing experience is essential, and a valid plumbing license is required.
- Master Plumber Certification (Preferred)
Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience as a plumber or plumbing technician, with strong hands-on knowledge of the trade.
- 2 years of experience in managing teams or departments, particularly in a service-oriented field.
- Ability to efficiently allocate resources, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Strong budgeting skills to maintain profitability while managing costs.
- Excellent communication skills to foster positive client relationships and resolve any issues.
- Familiarity with plumbing management software, scheduling tools, and office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) is often required.
