BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE maintains a vacancy pool of qualified faculty interested in temporary teaching positions as adjunct (part-time) instructors. Adjunct faculty are responsible for preparing and providing instruction for students in the classroom.
Essential Functions
- Provide high quality instruction in a variety of delivery methods, including face to face, hybrid, and online.
- Develop, delivery, and continuously improve business-related curriculum (e.g., operations, management, leadership, human relations, marketing, project management, and finance), ensuring that courses are current against industry standards and reflect trends.
- Develop, align, and deliver content, objectives, and assessments using evidence-based instructional practices.
- Integrate appropriate and engaging technology across modalities (onsite, online, and hybrid.
- Collaborate with program and academic faculty and institutional staff to deliver well-rounded program content.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse population of colleagues and students.
- Provide individual and group instruction.
- Apply pedagogically-sound and data-informed practices to support retention and completion rates across diverse student groups, including both high school and adult learners.
- Participate in shared governance via committees and other opportunities to advance the college.
- Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
- Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
- Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students and maintain student job placement records.
- Participate actively and collaboratively in student recruitment.
- Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
- Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
- Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program.
- Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
- Utilize online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning.
Non-Essential/Other Functions
- Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
- Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
- Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students, and maintain student job placement records.
- Accountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
- Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

- This position is required to work in-person on campus.
- This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by Bates Technical College local union.
- Following date of hire, all full-time faculty and all part-time faculty working two-thirds of a full-time load for more than three quarters (20 hours per week) must obtain Professional-Technical Education Certificate within 30 working days.
- Maintain first aid/CPR certification.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, or closely related field; and
- At least five (5) years of industry experience to include previous teaching, coaching, or instructional experience and/or student teaching experience as part of an educational degree program.
Allowable Substitution
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching at a two-year higher education institution.
- Experience teaching on-line and hybrid courses.
- Experience applied and experiential learning.
