The Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Vice President of Student Services and is responsible for the administration and operation of a comprehensive student financial aid program, veterans, and the Workforce Education Services Department. The Director is responsible for systems operations for all electronic processing of applications including ctcLink, Common Origination and Disbursement, EDExpress, FSA Partner Connect, NSLDS, G5, EApp and FAA Access. The Director exercises discretion and independent judgement in interpreting federal aid policies and developing procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for systems operations.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential Functions Provides overall leadership, administration and management of federal, state and institutional financial aid, veterans, WorkFirst, Opportunity Grant, BFET, Early Achievers and Worker Retraining programs, including the development of consumer information and financial aid brochures.Performs full-service functions related to all aspects of the financial aid programs, including reviewing and awarding aid files.Provides technical assistance and training to all staff and serves as the systems manager for all electronic processes.Understands and interprets federal and state regulations, program guidelines and college policy pertaining to the financial aid programs.Writes administrative policy and procedures for all student assistance programs and ensures funds are expended and reconciled accordingly.Ensures the operation of an effective, objective and fiscally sound financial aid program which maximizes the utility of available funds, the coordination of benefits and meeting the needs of students in need of assistance.Responsible for developing and maintaining self-service systems for students and initiating the development of technology and procedures to improve the efficiency of the financial aid process for students to access their records including the ability to apply, monitor, and receive information such as application status and fund disbursement. Authorizes student payroll and payments to off-campus work study employers. Reviews and approves the appointment of or dismissal of student employees.Reviews and awards financial aid in accordance with regulations and institutional policies to eligible students.Projects expenditures, revenue and allocations for funds management in all aid programs. Responsible for preparing budgets and management of financial operations of the department within the budget, goals and objectives of college guidelines and policies. Explore and evaluate additional grants and funding options to determine the impact to students. Apply to these programs when appropriate and implement if application is successful.Collaborate with other departments on campus as related to financial aid.Provide leadership, development and supervision to staff to maximize the overall performance and ensure alignment of the department’s and College’s strategic plan, core values, vision and mission. Lead the department with integrity and a high level of ethics.Non-Essential/Other FunctionsAccountable for keeping personal development up-to-date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc. Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
