BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE maintains a vacancy pool of qualified candidates interested in temporary teaching as a Practical Nursing Instructor. Qualified candidates will be put on an eligible list and selected as needed. These part time positions may become available at any time.
BATES TECHNICAL COLLEGE Practical Nursing Instructor provides comprehensive instruction to students in the practical nursing and nursing assistant programs. Nursing instructors will provide instruction in the variety of education settings. This includes didactic instruction, instruction in the skills lab, simulation lab, and clinical settings. Nursing instructors are also expected to work collaboratively with other nursing faculty to develop teaching and learning activities, evaluation tools, and provide feedback to the students. Incumbent will support the guiding expectations of the college embodied in the mission and vision.
- Provide both clinical and didactic instruction to nursing students that help develop student competency in the utilization of all elements of the nursing process.
- Coordinate the delivery of instruction to nursing students with the other nursing program faculty and ensure that instruction design and delivery supports the approved objectives of the program; monitor student outcomes and adjust course content to facilitate student success.
- Analyze industry needs and the Nursing commission to write, develop and update course curriculum documentation, including but not limited to performance objectives, competencies, lesson plans and content.
- Grade and evaluate students in a timely manner based on curriculum taught to ensure students learning outcomes are met.
- Mentor, encourage, counsel and guide students toward the completion of program requirements i.e., interpersonal relationships, career goals and responsible work habits.
- Ensure that appropriate safety practices are used at all times, students are knowledgeable of safety techniques and all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition.
- Use effective competency-based teaching techniques, instructional materials, and appropriate media support in conducting classroom and laboratory projects.
- Remain current with industry standards in order to ensure that instruction is consistent with current technologies.
- Maintain accurate written records and timelines as required.
- Develop and/or maintain industry-based program accreditation, and ensure students are prepared for and have the opportunity to obtain relevant industry credentials and certifications.
- Deliver classroom management to maintain suitable learning environment by responding appropriately to student conduct/problems and provide assistance in solving them in accordance with college procedures.
- Provide budget management which includes requisition and maintenance control of and safeguard inventories of equipment and supplies assigned to the program.
- Maintain friendly and cooperative relationships with respective Healthcare partners.
- In cooperation with other program faculty, maintain program approval status through the Washington State Nursing Commission and work toward National accreditation.
- Actively contribute to and participate in college-wide activities in support of regional accreditation and state and federal requirements.
- Support College student achievement practices to ensure student retention, completion, and progression.
- Participate actively and collaboratively with College Student Services and program advisory committees to support access to employment opportunities for students and maintain student job placement records.
- Accountable for keeping personal development up to date; adding to skills and knowledge through courses that may be available through the Bates Technical College courses, professional development committees, etc.
- Participate actively and collaboratively on committees for college as needed including but not limited to staff recruitment, college councils, etc.

- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
- Five (5) years nursing experience
- Must possess an unencumbered Washington State RN License
If necessary, alternative combinations of education and experience may be evaluated by Human Resources for comparability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university
- Supervisory experience
- Experience working with persons of disability and/or learning-disabled persons
- Prior teaching in a post- secondary setting
