What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fitness Supervision position at BATH AREA FAMILY YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Health & Wellness Director, the Fitness Center Attendant Level I is expected to coach and assist members in developing a healthy lifestyle and in meeting their wellness goals; provide member service and counsel in the appropriate use of fitness center equipment and services; provide wellness consultations and encourage participation in member wellness incentive programs; ensure that facilities and services are responsive to member needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Communicates appropriately with individuals based on readiness to change.
- Intentionally connects members and program participants to one another.
- Properly instructs members on the use of strength training equipment, free weights, flexibility exercises, and all cardiovascular machines
- Provide consistent support to all members using the facility.
- Provide wellness consultations after completing YMCA certifications.
- Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
- Displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and well-being goals.
- Understands different health needs to adjust activities and program to serve all.
- Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected.
- Helps to create new approaches to serve Healthy Living needs of members and program participants.
- Understands and aligns delivery of Healthy Living programs to program goals and objectives.
- Ensures wellness center is clean and all equipment is in working order and maintenance records are properly maintained.
- Exercises good judgment around areas of responsibility.
- Meets the association standard for attendance, punctuality and dependability.
- Enforce wellness center policies and age restrictions.
- Maintain knowledge of emergency and safety procedures, provide care in an emergency, document all incidents/accidents on the appropriate forms.
- Follow up with members to schedule consultations and encourage regular exercise.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Participate in staff meetings and training as required.
- Set an example of healthy living and personal fitness.
- Participate in providing tours to prospective members if required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school Diploma
- CPR and First Aid (must obtain within first 6 months of employment)
SKILLS:
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse group of people.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Familiar with the culture and mission of the organization
- Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
- Friendly and polite.
- Ability to be gracious with all persons of various ages, cultures, and creeds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is required to be performed on the YMCA premises. Regular interaction with members and staff. Supervision received from the Health & Wellness Director. May also take direction from senior staff.
