Key Responsibilities: Retail Pharmacy Duties:
Frequent standing, walking, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform various repetitive motions (e.g., entering data, preparing medications). Work Environment:
Primarily indoors in both retail and hospital settings. Exposure to various environmental conditions such as chemical hazards, biological materials, and temperature fluctuations. - Input and verify prescriptions.
- Manage insurance-related issues.
- Contact providers to resolve prescription-related queries.
- Transfer prescriptions between pharmacies.
- Oversee pharmacy personnel and daily operations.
- Administer vaccinations (must have authorization to do so).
- Verify prescriptions and ensure renal dosing accuracy.
- Dose vancomycin and other critical medications.
- Communicate and collaborate with providers and nursing staff.
- Operate Automated Dispensing Machines (ADMs).
- Check and maintain various kits and trays.
- Prepare sterile IVs in a compounding aseptic isolator.
- Assist in the Emergency Room with order entry or medication retrieval from ADMs.
- Provide drug information to medical personnel and patients.
- Comfortable in both retail and hospital settings.
- Familiarity with Meditech Expanse (hospital) and ComputeRx (retail) preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to work with automated pharmacy systems.
- Knowledge and training in HIPAA and infection control guidelines.
- Ability to supervise support personnel.
- Excellent communication skills with patients and healthcare providers.
- Willingness to train and adapt to new systems and protocols.
- Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school.
- Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of Virginia.
- Authorized to administer vaccinations.
- Ability to provide pharmaceutical care across all age groups.
