JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION:
The System Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical pharmacy systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of appropriate, safe, and cost-effective drug therapies. This role manages the clinical pharmacy section of the division, including developing, monitoring, evaluating and coordinating clinical pharmacy services that promote desirable patient outcomes. The incumbent will develop and implement policies, procedures, process guidelines, and protocols to ensure the provision of safe, effective and economical pharmacotherapy for all patients in the hospital, ensuring compliance with clinical practice standards as well as Joint Commission and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulatory standards. The incumbent sits on the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee and other key patient care/clinical committees. Responsibilities include direct supervision of clinical pharmacy staff who provide patient-focused pharmaceutical care. Other responsibilities include the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives, fiscal controls, management of human and capital resources, formulary management, and risk management functions for the clinical pharmacy program
Accountable to the Director of Pharmacy Services for all aspects of clinical pharmacy initiatives and drug utilization goals within Baton Rouge General Health System

JOB FUNCTIONS
Works collaboratively across the system with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals and staff within the health-system to identify strategic clinical pharmacy initiatives related to medication safety, drug utilization, clinical quality, and education
Reviews and ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulations regarding acceptable standards of practice and appropriate compliance in relation to these governing bodies
Coordinates the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs for the health system
Coordinates the clinical representation of the Pharmacy Department on various health-system committees as required
Facilitates the system P&T committee on a monthly basis, prepares the P&T agenda, while coordinating with clinical pharmacists the writing and presentation of drug monographs for review by the Formulary Review and system P&T Committees
Identifies opportunities to improve pharmaceutical use and grow clinical pharmacy programs in the inpatient, ambulatory, long-term care, and outpatient settings
Manages the pharmacy aspect of the safety portal system
Actively participates and supports the system Medication Safety and QI committees
Contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national organizations, as well as participation in community educational programs
Maintains an environment that respects cultural, economic, ethnic, and lifestyle diversity of patients, visitors, and staff.
Supports the Residency Program within the system, including creation and oversight of residency programs, recruiting, selection, and development of educational structure.
Responsible for working with pharmacy leadership to develop and update policies and procedures as they relate to pharmacy operations insuring compliance with all regulatory and quality agencies.
Facilitates orientation and training of Clinical Pharmacy staff as needed
Supervises all aspects of the clinical pharmacy program including other pharmacists functioning in a clinical capacity.
Evaluates the progress of the clinical programs across all divisions of the pharmacy service line and the performance of pharmacy clinical specialists, medication utilization and formulary coordinator, and clinical pharmacists.

Certifications:
PharmD degree
State of Louisiana Pharmacist License or eligibility for reciprocity
Pharmacy Residency PGY-1 or PGY-2 Preferred
Board Certification
Five (5) years of clinical experience in a hospital setting/health system required
Five (5) years of management experience required
HIPAA REQUIREMENTS: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, medical records related to quality/data, patient financial information,3rd party billing, information related to patient location, religious beliefs, research information, public health records, employee prescriptions, and/or investigatory information.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, receives patient orders, and monitoring clinical alarms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS (Reference DOT 074.161-010 – PHARMACIST) - STRENGTH: L – Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
