JOB SUMMARY: Performs evidenced-based techniques related to the practice of substance abuse counseling. Implements treatment regimen and curricula for residential and/or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment program(s), with a maximum case load of 10-12 residents or 20 IOP clients.

JOB FUNCTIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:


1. Provides assessment and subsequent interventions to patients and their families.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Develops accurate comprehensive psychosocial assessments and examines current problems and relevant bio-psychosocial and environmental factors, within the mandated time frames.
  • Communicate aspects of the assessment to members of the health care team, patient, and significant others, ensuring that information is always current.
  • Serves as a resource person for other professionals.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assess suspected or actual abuse and neglect cases and follows current state and facility policies on reporting such cases.
  • Identifies potential suicidal and/or homicidal risks with patients; utilizes established methods and interventions as appropriate to address and follows reporting regulations.
  • Arranges and facilitates group therapies, individual therapy and family sessions as ordered by the psychiatrist.
  • Monitors and assesses ongoing issues referring to patients and their families. Communicates and documents same and updates treatment planning as needed.
  • Effectively participates as an interdisciplinary team member in developing the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Communicates verbally with tact and sensitivity toward the patients and their families.
  • Encourages patient to participate in decision making and assists in patient/family education as needed, to aid in communication and input in the treatment plan.
  • Monitors appropriateness of length of stay and documents accurately the medical necessity for continued stay.
  • Provide direct care to residents utilizing the core competencies of addiction counseling.
  • Serve as primary counselor for 10-12 residents or 20 IOP clients.
  • Attend and participate in individual care conferences, treatment planning activities and discharge planning.
  • Function as the resident’s advocate in all treatment decisions affecting the resident.
  • Prepare notes and other documents related to recovery (e.g. assessment, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge, etc.
  • If Licensed, provide on-site and direct professional supervision of any unlicensed professional or inexperienced professional.
  • Works with other team members to improve patient outcomes.

2. Facilitates the movement of patients through the continuum of care by the discharge planning process.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Initiates discharge plans, communicates, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals, and updates discharge plans following department policy guidelines.
  • Coordinates community resources and referral sources to achieve optimum results.
  • Conducts group sessions, family and individual as per program schedule or indicated.

3. Performs all other duties as assigned.


SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Twenty-four (24) months of experience in working with clients who have addictive disorders or specialized training.


SPECIAL SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

An LMHP (Licensed Mental Health Professional) that maintains a current and unrestricted license with its respective professional board or licensing authority in the State of Louisiana (LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LAC, or LRC)

OR

PLPC, LMSW, RAC, or CAC under supervision of an LMHP and/or CIT that is registered with ADRA and is currently participating in a supervisory relationship with an ADRA-registered certified clinical supervisor (CCS)


HIPAA REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable HIPAA regulations appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Medical records without limitation both paper and electronic, patient demographics, lab and radiology results, patient information related to surgery or appointment schedules, information related to patient location, religious beliefs and/or public health records.


SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

Maintains knowledge of and adherence to all applicable safety practices appropriate to Job Position including but not limited to: Incident reporting, handling of wastes, sharps and linen, PPE, exposure control plans, hand washing, environment of care, patient identification, validates, transports, monitors or observes patients, and monitors clinical alarms.
