Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Communication System Analyst to work in our Network & Collaborative Infrastructure department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our REC/IAB facility with every other Friday off.

You will provide and maintain internal telecommunications, voice communications systems equipment, and any necessary change in the equipment. You will report to the Wireless Communications Lead.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Administer the LMR virtual environment.
  • Perform field investigations as a part of the Work Orders creation process.
  • Determine existing configurations (both physical and logical) of all communication/network components and to determine what hazards may exist so that they can be avoided as part of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).
  • Provide system engineering, administration and maintenance for all INL wireless telecommunications Structures, Systems, and Components (SSCs), to include: Trunked and Conventional Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system(s); Wide Area Paging system; Microwave Transport Network; Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN); Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN); both the East Butte and Howe Peak Radio Transmission Facilities; Protected AC or DC Power Systems; Real Time Spectrum Monitoring System; Cellular Systems.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Level 1: BS Wireless Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field, or a High School diploma or equivalent and 6 years direct experience in lieu of degree.
  • Level 2: BS Wireless Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical field and two years of relevant experience, or a High School diploma or equivalent and 8 years direct experience in lieu of degree.
  • An understanding of radio frequency communication principles, such as radio simplex; Half-Duplex and FullDuplex modes of operations; basic repeater, and simple and complex trunking system concepts; Bandwidth and modulation standards and concepts.
  • RF spectrum dependent telecommunications systems and equipment, including (but not limited to) Trunked Land Mobile Radio System(s), Digital Paging System(s), Global Positioning System (GPS), Digital Data Microwave System(s), Conventional Land Mobile Radio System(s), Spread Spectrum System(s), and other wireless applications. Experienced and working knowledge of WLAN systems are desirable.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Working knowledge/experienced application skills for telephony and telecommunications circuitry, IP networking, RF Cabling and Termination, etc.
  • Working knowledge/experienced application skills of SCADA/Telemetry systems and alarm monitoring equipment.
  • Working knowledge/experienced application skills of distributed antenna systems (DAS).
  • Experienced in the application and utilization of AC/DC circuits, wiring, trouble shooting, industry standards and procedures.
  • Spectrum Management principals and policies; RF propagation fundamentals; Land Mobile Radio concepts and systems.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($56,196 - $109,644) / Level 2 ($65,064 - $133,416). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
