Reporting to the Senior Manager of the MFC Computer Engineering group, you will be given an in-depth exposure to computer engineering methods and engineering processes. The internship will indoctrinate you to the full stack development (backend, middleware, and UI), as well as hardware-software integration. You will be working with various programming languages, frameworks, and tools including Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Angular, Docker, Git and GitLab, Python, PyTest, Minitest, Selenium, etc., in an open-source environment. Additionally, you will gain experience with hardware systems, embedded systems, and instrumentation. You will be working closely with the MFC Computer Engineering team to complete projects related to nuclear material tracking and developing an application called NUTRON. You will also work on gathering data from systems and instruments designed to test experimental nuclear samples. You will be expected to follow Computer Engineering best practices, such as maintaining code in version control, writing unit and system tests, following code conventions, established control workflows, and supporting continuous integration. You will be required to update documentation and take part in code reviews. You have the opportunity to join a team that practices Agile Development using the Scrum framework; participating in backlog grooming, sprint planning session/reviews, and joining daily stand-ups.

This team works a 4x10 schedule and works onsite at the Materials and Fuels Complex next Idaho Falls Idaho. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Computer Engineering
  • Must be registered and eligible to participates in their university co-op education program
  • Maintenance of good academic standing in an undergraduate program of study at college/university for the duration of co-op participation
  • A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Undergraduate Internships ($26.16/hour - $31.47/hour)
  • Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($32.87/hour - $35.26/hour)
  • PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($35.95/hour - $38.41/hour)
  • Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
