What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Team Member - Arts & Play position at Battery Park Authority?
Position Summary: The Seasonal Team Member: Arts & Play is an important member of a team that is tasked with implementing a wide variety of weekly play, art making, and educational activities for park visitors of all ages. Programs include preschool play, preschool story-time, sing-along, children’s arts education, adult art, and other education programs taking place throughout our parks. Hours will fluctuate up to 20-25 hours per week depending on scheduled programs and events. Hours can and will be adjusted throughout season by the Associate Director based on the candidate’s performance and ability to meet essential duties.
The season starts April 15 and will continue through October 31st.
Sample possible schedule: M, 9AM-12:30PM; TU, 2:30-5:30PM; W, 1-6PM; TH, 8:30AM-6PM; SAT, 8:30AM-1:30PM Saturday work is required.
Essential Duties:
- Assume a supporting role in implementing arts/ play/ education programs
- Hands-on engagement with participants at programs with high energy and enthusiasm
- Work with Program Specialists and Full-time and Part-time Program Leaders being supportive and prepared to help meet the needs of specific programs; demonstrate flexibility helping at programs as needed, following directions from Specialist(s)/ Leader(s)
- Work in accordance with all BPCA policies and procedures regarding uniforms, punctuality, time management, and overall communication with upper management
- Provide information to park visitors about Programming offerings, horticulture, maintenance practices, as well as general BPCA history and overall philosophy
- NY State Mandated Trainings must be completed by all BPCA staff. Opportunities to complete these paid trainings will be provided either onsite during work shifts or on candidate’s own time using their own internet access.
- Access to the ADP app, a provided BPCA email account, and the internet are an essential part of work-related connectivity. Candidates must be able to access these technologies either through their own personal devices or provided office workstations.
Education and Experience: Previous experience in visual arts, teaching, working with children in schools, summer camps, afterschool programs, or other organized group settings is required. Experience working with adults in education/ arts setting is a plus. BPCA is seeking high energy and fun-loving candidates with a demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for engaging a diverse audience of participants. BPCA seeks candidates with a high sense of emotional intelligence and compassion to gauge the needs and interests of all members of the community, including children and adults of different ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Valid driver’s license - preferred.
