Battle Ground Academy (BGA), a K-12 college preparatory school in Franklin, TN, seeks a dynamic and innovative educator to join its upper school science department for the 2025-2026 academic year. Position Overview:
The ideal candidate will have experience teaching high school science, preferably in an independent school setting, and familiarity with AP Physics curriculum. Experience with project-based learning and/or design thinking is highly desirable. A student-centered teaching approach is essential. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and advanced degrees are preferred.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Curriculum Development: Prepare curricula, lead instruction, develop assessments, and provide timely feedback to students, parents, and administration. Create syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials. Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development.
Student Growth & Assessment: Assess students’ academic and social growth, maintain timely and appropriate grades and reports.
Teaching Strategies: Provide individualized and small group instruction. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs. Integrate technology effectively into the classroom.
Classroom Environment: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment by maintaining high standards of student behavior and rapport. Identify student needs and collaborate with grade-level teams to address learning challenges.
Student Supervision & Extracurriculars: Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities. Lead or assist with extracurricular activities (teams, sports, clubs, etc.).
Communication & Collaboration: Communicate student progress to parents through various channels (report cards, comments, email, conferences). Maintain professional, collegial, and ethical conduct.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development and in-service education.
School Community Involvement: Fulfill other duties as assigned (committees, advisory, homeroom, chaperone, supervision, Saturday School, etc.).
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Physics or a related science field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience teaching high school science, ideally in an independent school.
AP Physics teaching experience preferred.
Experience with project-based learning and/or design thinking a plus.
Demonstrated ability to create a student-centered learning environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
