Job Purpose
A field superintendent at Baumann & Crosno Construction is involved in the daily construction of new residential housing or future commercial multi-family housing throughout Northwest Arkansas. They manage multiple projects’ schedules, from site development to obtaining the final certificate of occupancy. This involves scheduling of materials and trades, problem solving, inspecting quality, making important business and financial decisions, customer relations, and delivering high quality residential housing to the market. The ideal field superintendent will be able to utilize a wide range of task management capabilities, out of the box thinking, and have strong problem solving abilities.
Training, Duties and Responsibilities
The Field Superintendent training program consists of on the job training with the construction manager for approximately 3 months. This program will teach all the necessary tools and traits needed to build high quality residential housing in Northwest Arkansas. Items covered will teach individuals how to complete all tasks and duties asked of them through inherited knowledge and problem solving techniques.
The daily, weekly and monthly duties/tasks involve:
- Inspecting multiple job sites in different areas of Northwest Arkansas by walking and carefully examining all aspects of the homes daily, including exterior and interior of each home
- Managing trade partners to make sure their tasks are completed on time, on budget, and at the highest quality level
- Managing multiple shipments of material to the proper job sites at the proper time for installation
- Getting any and all issues with trade partners’ work corrected in a timely fashion
- Working with local municipalities on permitting, inspections, and obtaining certificates of occupancy
- Checking/managing multiple reports throughout the building process, such as “progress vs. budget,” to ensure houses are on time and on budget
- Working with customers to ensure they are updated on the progress of their jobs by way of phone, onsite orientations, and inspections
- Approving and coding invoices to complete bank or customer draws
- Applying and implementing new strategies and methods to the production department to continually create a more efficient business
This position gives the flexibility to manage and work in and out of the office environment, while getting to use resources learned in school and job site training to the fullest potential.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following qualifications to be considered for the position:
- High School Diploma
- Prior job experience in the construction industry, preferably residential construction
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and construction related accounting applications
- Strong communication skills, leadership, attention to detail, time management and problem solving skills
- The ability to implement new ideas and processes
- An understanding of professional work places and appropriate interaction and behavior
- Current good standing driver’s license
Working Conditions
Working conditions consist of being outside in all weather conditions, working with trades from various ethnic backgrounds, and a varying schedule. Daily schedules are irregular, as they are based on project workload and the day’s meetings and deadlines.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements for this position include the ability to drive a vehicle safely, walk all job sites, move various materials if/when needed, and keeping sites clean and free of trash.
