This is a Trainee Position, that performs duties and related procedures associated with the surgical technician role, while in the learning phase.
Surgical Technicians provide assistance in all surgical cases, i.e. emergency, elective and scheduled. This position is responsible and accountable for assisting in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient by performing routine and delegated duties, including care of instruments and turn-over of cases, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse according to Standards of Practice and policies of the Surgery Department.

This Trainee Position was designed for individuals with no and/or limited applicable experience as a technician. A High School Diploma or GED is required, as well as acceptable communication and decision making skills.
SUMMARY: This position is filled by an individual who, performs as Surgical Technologist while in the learning phase.
In this position the individual will develop the knowledge and technical skills necessary to assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon's assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments through progression in Baxter Health’s Surgical Technologist Training Program.
Responsible and accountable for direct patient care for assigned patients in the perioperative unit. Responsible for adhering to all standards of perioperative care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own and energize the vision, mission, values and standards of the hospital.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: None or limited experience required as a technician
Certifications: BLS required

May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases. May have to function around prisoners or mental patients.
