About the role, Your Impact
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for a Senior Bridge Engineer in our Crystal Lake, Chicago, Naperville IL offices. This position will primarily involve design engineering efforts on various transportation bridge projects for State, County, Tollway, and Local Agencies. An advanced knowledge of designing bridge improvements with MicroStation and familiarity with structural analysis software is required. This team-oriented position will include working with Baxter & Woodmans diverse disciplines and offices. Most projects will be in Illinois but may include work for our Wisconsin, Florida, or Texas offices.
What your day-to-day will look like
- Provide structural design support for our transportation bridge department.
- Design Bridge, Retaining Wall, and other Structural Infrastructure improvements.
- Assist with proposal/project approach writing.
- Complete general civil engineering services for municipal, county, and state clients.
- Complete engineering plans and specifications using State DOT Standards.
- Assist project engineers and managers by making significant decisions on a wide variety of tasks required during project delivery.
- Make decisions independently and take responsibility for project engineering solutions
- Manage clients and enhance client relationships.
- Represent the company in client and agency meetings to resolve questions and to plan and coordinate work.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring of project team members.
Education/Certification Requirement
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer

- At least 15 years of relevant experience with municipal or highway agency transportation bridge projects.
- Ability to travel throughout Baxter & Woodmans service area (own transportation).
- Ability to independently handle a variety of ongoing tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
- Work within a team-first culture that encourages individual development and accomplishment of goals.
Compensation The pay range for this role is $140,000 to $160,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
