What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Scientist Intern position at Baxters North America Inc?
Scope of Job: This position will assist in the investigations, experimental design, formulation testing, decision making, and commercialization of new product, product renovation, and product maintenance projects. The position works collaboratively with cross-functional team members from Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to assure products consistently deliver on product design. The position will provide the opportunity to experience food product design and renovation in a corporate setting with exposure to production plant facilities.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of an individual project(s) and present to key stakeholders at the end of the internship period.
- Document and maintain organized, detailed records of laboratory formulation variables and data analysis.
- Participate in cuttings of your own products, fellow food scientist’s products, production quality cuttings, and competitive products.
- Assist in product development process through the following tasks: sampling raw materials, executing sample production, developing formulas, and shadowing food scientists during factory trials.
- Create preliminary Nutrition Facts Panels (NFP) and ingredient statements with guidance from Regulatory Specialist.
- Collaborate with production and support departments to ensure food safety and the quality of our products.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: Recent graduate or current student in a Bachelor’s program in Food science or similar area of concentration.
Experience: Technical knowledge with good reasoning and sound judgement abilities. Preliminary coursework or training in chemistry, food science, or culinary areas.
