What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Development Technician position at Baxters North America Inc?
SUMMARY:
The Product Development Technician is responsible for leading designated activities in the laboratory area under the direction of the Product Development Manager. Activities include, but are not limited to, supporting the team by operating a variety of lab equipment, preparing and weighing ingredients, pulling sample ingredients from the production floor, executing analytical testing, cleaning and organizing the kitchen/lab space, and ordering lab supplies.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Execute laboratory benchwork.
Maintain accurate records and appropriate documentation to support benchwork.
Perform lab analytical tests, including but not limited to – pH, salt, brix, viscosity, moisture, drain weights, blanch yield, residual gas, headspace.
Participate in team and departmental activities.
Utilize Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word, and retort equipment processing software.
Operate laboratory sealing equipment and retort to produce product samples
Assist with heat penetration and temperature distribution testing.
Manage and order laboratory supplies, shipping materials, ingredients, and packaging.
General lab organization and clean-up.
Label, package, and ship product samples to customers domestically and internationally.
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Operation of lab equipment, including but not limited to, pH meter, moisture analyzer, stove, scales, Brix meter, and Bostwick consistometer.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret product formulations and instructions written in English.
Effectively communicate to present information and respond to questions from manager and Food Scientists.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percentages.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED with 2 years lab or food manufacturing setting required.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
WORKING CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed during the day and/or evening in a laboratory, production, or office environment. Work must be done on site.
The noise level in the work area ranges from quiet to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, reach with hands/arms, stoop, and lift or move up to 40 pounds.
Full time, 40-hour work week with occasional over time support on weekends or evenings to support business needs.
