What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher/Scheduler-Gloucester, VA position at Bay Aging?
Ensure all Bay Transit passengers have a safe and timely ride to meet their transportation needs to work, retail, legal, medical, educational, or recreational facilities. Report to the Regional Transit Operations Supervisor. Pay Rate: $16.00/hr
Essential functions
- Coordinate ride with passengers: Take incoming calls for ride requests and make calls to confirm the ride.
- Schedule rides into scheduling software: Check existing schedule and ensure optimal routing of buses to identify appropriate pick-up and drop-off time for the riders.
- Communicate with bus drivers and dispatchers throughout the shift to meet last minute requests for rides and changes on the road (weather, roadwork, etc.).
- Operational duties: On-going communication with drivers during the shift; managing the daily changes to scheduled routes (e.g., cancellation, add-on). Coordinate backup and roadside assistance in case of a vehicle breakdown. Modify routes to consider local road conditions.
- Administrative duties: Prepare drivers manifest for the next day. Complete own timecard accurately every day. Record tracking information such as start/finish mileage for each bus, cash/tickets collected.
- Provide ride: occasionally provide a ride to a stranded passenger using Bay Transit vehicle.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Relies upon experience with the software and knowledge of the service area to plan and schedule rides for clients and guide drivers. Perform a defined, repetitive, and limited number of tasks. Collaborate closely with drivers to ensure passengers have a safe and timely ride.
Decision making- Manages daily scheduling and dispatching responsibilities for the positions designated service area. Refer to supervisor when there is an incident with a vehicle on the road or a passenger, and when there is a significant disruption to the transportation routes.
Working knowledge of:
- Phone systems and two-way radio; Dispatch and scheduling software e.g., RouteMatch; Microsoft Office programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail).
Ability to:
- Communicate verbally over the phone/radio clearly, even under stress or difficult circumstances.
- Be organized and methodical about each task. Have a positive attitude while dealing with riders, and drivers.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers. Work a flexible schedule during Monday through Friday.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Office-based position with minimal physical requirements (ability to lift 15lbs, walking and climbing stairs). None of the essential functions of the position can be performed virtually.
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; must possess a valid drivers license. Experience in customer service positions.
