Staff Attorney

**Job Title:** Staff Attorney

Bay Area Legal Services seeks a full-time Staff Attorney to provide counsel and advice, as well as represent clients in civil legal proceedings in traditional areas of public interest law.

About the Role

The primary focus of this position will be in family law and domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking, and other injunction matters. The Team Leader of the Dade City office will supervise the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide representation to victims of crime in court proceedings, including emergency advocacy.
• Advise and assist clients in connection with crime victim compensation.
• Interview applicants and determine eligibility requirements for established legal services.
• Communicate with clients to learn about their legal needs and concerns.
• Develop and implement strategies to resolve cases favorably.
• Negotiate settlement of cases with opposing attorneys or parties.
• Prepare necessary correspondence relating to services rendered.
• Represent clients participating in hearings before various courts and administrative bodies.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school.
• Florida Bar licensed and in good standing with the Bar.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize, and review the work of others.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications

• Two or more years of family law litigation experience.
• Previous experience in a non-profit legal services firm.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.
