Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, understand English, follow recipes, and do basic adjustment to recipes to meet serving requirements for a meal.
- Experience as a cook or in food preparation in a commercial or industrial kitchen is desired. Must be able to operate kitchen equipment.
- Ability to organize work to accomplish job requirements for meal set-up and serving and to do other dietary duties.
Job Summary Prepares nourishing, attractive, tasty meals using acceptable food handling, food preparation and serving techniques.
Essential Job Duties
- Reviews menus before preparing meals and serves meals attractively and according to the menu.
- Meets time schedule for preparation and serving of meals and snacks.
- Assists in serving meals using proper proportions and special diet items.
- Follows standardized recipes and special diet orders.
- Ensures that therapeutic diets are prepared and served according to the meal plan.
- Assists in maintaining the safety and sanitation of the dietary department.
- Uses proper food handling techniques.
- Assist in receiving and storing incoming foods and supplies.
- Complies with State regulations and established dietary policies and procedures.
- Reports food, supply and equipment needs to the Administrator.
- Dates, labels and stores food properly in the refrigerator, freezer and dry storage.
- Works as a team and helps in all positions.
- Keeps the work area clean and organized.
- Attends education presentations as assigned and applies information as directed by the supervisor.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Administrator.
- Weekly menus must be completed and distributed by the end of the day on Wednesday. Preparation of monthly and quarterly menus will be ongoing, with progress reported to the administrator.
- Office days will be used for menu preparation, shopping, training, and organization. During office hours, kitchen assistance will not be provided unless training is scheduled on 7shifts. This maintains clarity while setting clear expectations for office day responsibilities.
- Schedules must be completed and posted in 7shifts by end of business day Wednesday.
- Off-clock hours must be reported on the schedule thread on the day the off-clock hours occur. All hours should be submitted NO LATER than the Saturday at the end of the payroll week. This way, the reporting timeline is clear and ensures timely submission.
