Job description
Kitchen Assistant Job Summary:
The selected candidate will prep, assist with cooking, sanitize and wash dishes, clear tables and assist with daily kitchen cleaning.
- Assist the Chef in planning and posting weekly menus
- Check all food orders against packing slips as they are delivered.
- Assist the Chef in maintaining an inventory of food on a weekly and monthly basis
- Assist the Chef in having lunch and dinner and snack prepared at stated meal times.
- Assist the Chef in ensuring appropriate substitutions for residents who have food allergies, medical conditions, and/or different food preferences.
- Wash dishes after the noon meal, assist in sanitizing dishes, and ensure that all food is properly stored after the meal.
- Assist the Chef in maintaining the kitchen area in a sanitary manner always in accordance with state health regulations and state HFA licensing.
- Assist the Chef in cleaning the refrigerators and freezers weekly, wash and organize shelves in the pantry, wash and organize kitchen cupboards, wash cupboard doors, clean ovens, stove top, and burners, and wash dishes as needed.
Job Requirements
- High School diploma required, prefer additional education in nutrition and/or food preparation.
- Experience with institutional cooking and/or HFA, knowledge of food nutrition preferred.
- Repeated lifting of up to 30 lbs. and/or more
- Standing for long periods of time
- Written and oral communication skills
- Basic math skills (specifically units of measure)
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced environment
- There may be additional physical and/or mental requirements based on the needs of specific situations.
