Job Description:
Bay Clinic is seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our dynamic Allergy Department team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of our allergy clinic, providing excellent care to our patients while performing allergy-related testing, injections, rooming, and assisting with various clinical procedures. Key Responsibilities:
- Allergy Testing & Procedures: Assist in administering allergy testing (skin testing, scratch testing), and interpret results as needed.
- Allergy Injections: Prepare and administer allergy injections to patients, ensuring accurate dosing, proper technique, and patient safety.
- Serum Mixing: Accurately mix and prepare allergen extracts for testing and injections.
- Rooming Patients: Prepare patients for exams by taking vital signs, reviewing medical history, and ensuring a clean and safe environment for procedures.
- Patient Education: Educate patients on their treatment plans, medications, and allergy-related care.
- Administrative Support: Manage patient flow, assist with scheduling, and maintain accurate medical records in our EMR system.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely with allergists, nurses, and other clinic staff to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Compliance and Safety: Adhere to all infection control standards, maintain a sterile environment, and comply with clinic protocols and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a medical assistant program preferred.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in an allergy or similar medical specialty.
- Certification: Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) preferred, but not required.
Skills:
- Knowledge of allergy testing and immunotherapy procedures.
- Ability to administer injections and manage allergen serum.
- Strong patient care skills with excellent bedside manner.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Summary of Working Conditions: Patient Care
- Position requires the ability to remain stationary for long periods, move around the facility, and communicate effectively to exchange information.
Healthcare Facility Environment:
- Work is primarily indoors within a healthcare facility, with occasional local travel and occasional out-of-area travel.
- Hours and staff scheduling may vary based on operational needs.
- The facility is clean, has a comfortable temperature, and a moderate noise level.
Exposure:
- Exposure to temperature variations, communicable diseases, and potentially escalated patients.
- Frequent close contact with employees and the public.
Equipment and Tools:
- Constant use of office machinery (computer, fax, copier, etc.) and possibly diagnostic tools like blood pressure devices and thermometers.
- May handle a high volume of calls, documentation, and use computer systems for information management.
- May need to use standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
Multiple Duties:
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions while staying focused on tasks.
