Nature of Job:
This is technical work that involves the preparing and application of various mosquito control techniques. The tasks are highly varied, occasionally complex and demand great attention to detail and follow up. The employee works under the supervision of the Senior Mosquito Control Technician, but, is expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment involving routine tasks.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Works daily with outside customers and other Bay County Departments.
- Performs daily inspection of truck, equipment and chemical inventory.
- Makes minor repairs on vehicles and/or equipment, and replenish stock as needed.
- Performs monthly inventory of chemicals in trucks and buildings, to keep the operation flowing without interruption.
- Files all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Uses Computer Automated Programs for scheduled Customer Service Requests and daily Larvacide field operations, and to update material inventory usage
- Uses Computer GPS Tracker for daily Adulticide operations.
- Formulates the application of insecticides for Arthropod control operations.
- Checks and updates No-Spray reports.
- Performs field studies to determine mosquito breeding sites.
- Assists in training for Larvaciding and/or Adulticiding programs.
- Assists in calibration of all equipment.
- Picks up and returns mosquito traps in required locations.
- Able to identify and perform various testing of trapped mosquitos.
- Assists in picking up and disposal of waste tires.
- Performs custodial and ground maintenance work.
- Regular reliable full-time attendance as scheduled

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
- Computer knowledge/training.
- Experience in meeting the public and outstanding capability through such experience to deal with
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and read the English language.
- Must have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
- Must complete and pass Public and Core certification exams within 1 year of hire to obtain Public Health Applicator License in accordance with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
- A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of principles and practices of mosquito control in keeping with the mosquito control problems inherent in the locality.
- Knowledge of and ability to use data and/or work processing equipment and related software.
- Knowledge of mechanical applications.
- Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.
- Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret maps.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying and adverse weather; work in water, brush and ditches. Work requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, inclement weather, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odors or dust).
This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations.
Stooping, sitting, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pulling, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Ability to frequently lift and carry equipment 25-50lbs. and on occasion up to 100 pounds; manual dexterity and mobility; intermittent exertion when performing duties.
WORK LOCATION:
Not Eligible for Remote Work - This position is assigned to a county worksite. Due to the non-portable nature of the essential functions of this position, this position is not eligible for telework.
