JOB TITLE: INSERVICE/INFECTION CONTROL L.P.N./R.N.
REPORTS TO: INSERVICE/INFECTION PREVENTION DIRECTOR
SALARY: $34 TO START (LPN) / $40 TO START (RN)
HOURS: 8AM - 430PM - MONDAY – FRIDAY (OCCASSIONAL SATURDAYS)
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Inservice/Infection Prevention Director assists in the development and implementation of orientation, inservice and continuing education for Nursing Department personnel. Will also assist in infection control monitoring and tracking. Assists with the hiring process for nursing assistants. Participates in quality assurance as it relates to all aspects of the job.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in coordinating and providing orientation, in-services, and continuing education.
- Provides counseling and problem solving as needed to orientees having difficulty meeting objectives.
- Evaluates ongoing performance of orientees within clinical areas. Recommends termination when orientee fails to achieve objectives.
- Conducts regular surveillance inspections of the building for conformity to infection control standards and maintains related documentation.
- Assists in the hiring process for nursing assistants.
- Documents and maintains recordkeeping of staff training as required. Tracks C.N.A. certificate renewals and required Inservice hours.
- Administers the employee and resident tuberculosis screening and vaccination programs and maintains related documentation – employee health records, TB screening program, Hepatitis B vaccines, employee post exposure follow-ups.
- Participates in the preparation and presentation of quality assurance reports related to inservice and/or infection control issues.
- Attends department meetings as directed.
- Assists in coordinating with student groups in the building.
- Assists with employee incident reports with infection control implications.
- Acts as a resource to staff and provide information as needed.
- Is knowledgeable of Resident Rights and ensures resident privacy and dignity and helps ensure a safe, secure environment for all residents.
- Completes annual Inservice training requirements, maintains acceptable attendance, and dresses in accordance with Dress Code Policy.
- Responsible for appropriate use of Facility supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud.
- Maintains confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and Facility information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current license as a L.P.N. or R.N. in the State of Michigan.
- Valid CPR certification card
- Valid, unrestricted drivers license
- A minimum of two years geriatric nursing experience.
- Supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage assigned duties.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to coordinate activities with groups of employees and outside providers. Must be able to work productively with all levels of healthcare personnel.
- Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines, completing paperwork requiring attention to detail, and dealing with concerns of staff.
- Physical ability to assist in training nursing assistants and perform nursing care tasks involving lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, transfer and position of residents. Includes ability to transfer residents, bend, twist, stoop, etc.
- Computer and typing skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Time is split between a resident care environment with minimal exposure to communicable diseases when using universal precautions and a normal office environment.
- Extended workday, evening and/or weekend hours may be occasionally required.
