Employees in this class operate medium and heavy equipment of more than ordinary difficulty requiring some skill and manipulative ability. Work of this class requires complex care in the operation of equipment to perform assigned tasks, protect the equipment, as well as protect property from damage. Employees may be required to perform related manual labor. On specific assignment, employees are closely supervised; however, on routine assignments supervision is general in nature.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operates commercial vehicles (Non-combination Class B vehicles up to 64,500) such as dump trucks, hook lift trucks, knuckle boom trucks and roll-offs.Operates farm style tractor with attachments to include mowers, brooms, fertilizer spreaders, planters, front-end loaders and backhoes.Operates skid steer style loader with attachments to include augers, forks, buckets and mowers.Operates truck carrying fuel, lubricants and lubricating equipment, performs routine field lubrication of light, medium, and heavy rolling stock and equipment.Hauls equipment with a light trailer.Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.Performs routine service and maintenance.Operates a variety of minor powered machinery and equipment; and participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload demands.Regular reliable full-time attendance as scheduled.The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of the operating and repair characteristics of medium and heavy automotive and similar equipment.Knowledge of the component parts, operating principles and maintenance needs of medium and heavy equipment.Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of medium and heavy equipment.Knowledge of traffic laws and other regulations governing the operation of equipment on construction activities.Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.Ability to obtain necessary information and to complete accurate accident and other reports.Ability to operate equipment over rough terrain and to perform manual labor occasionally under adverse weather conditions.Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.Ability to service various types of relatively heavy equipment and to make minor running repairs.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to use special types of equipmentPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work requires moderate exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, inclement weather, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odors or dust). This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations. Stooping, sitting, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pulling, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. This position requires frequent lifting of 25-50lbs and occasional lifting of 100lbs and carrying up to 100lbs.
