NATURE OF JOB:
This is a skilled journeyman level work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of both high and low voltage electrical and electronic systems found in electrical panels, lighting, motors, motor control centers, pumps, and switchgear systems in the County’s wastewater utilities.  Additionally, the position is responsible for assisting in the servicing, maintaining, calibrating, repairing and installing wiring, conduit, variable frequency motor drives, and soft-start motor drives. These facilities include (but are not limited to) the lift stations, collection system, and the Wastewater Treatment Facilities. The work is performed under the direction and supervision of the Wastewater Collections Supervisor or their designee.  The work requires knowledge of the mechanical and operational aspects of wastewater treatment equipment and installation.   Incumbent is expected to exercise sound judgement and initiative in resolving complex electric, electronic, electro/mechanical, and other maintenance related problems. Assignments are made either orally or through written work orders.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, install, alters, repairs, and maintains both high and low voltage motors, generators, switchgear, motor controllers, transformers, wiring systems, lighting, electronic components, and other related equipment.
  • Performs fabrication, maintenance, installation, servicing, and calculation of power load distributions to various motors and related equipment.
  • Performs field and bench maintenance, calibration and repair service on motor electrical components, electrical motor control centers, variable frequency motor drives, and soft-start motor drives. 
  • Assists in preparing preliminary cost estimates for materials, supplies, and equipment for proposed construction or renovation.
  • Assists in developing and implementing appropriate procedures to prevent problem recurrence when possible.
  • Performs diagnostic operations on electrical and electronic for problem identification and correction of unscheduled equipment and system impairments and outages.
  • Accomplishes preventive and predictive maintenance program routines for motor electrical components, high voltage transformers, breakers, distribution panels, electrical motor control centers, variable frequency motor drives, and soft-start motor drives.
  • Assists in the upkeep of accurate and comprehensive maintenance and repair records.
  • Assists in maintaining an inventory of spare parts and supplies needed to maintain and quickly repair all electrical equipment.
  • Assists with the accomplishment of in-house training, and other specialized programs as directed.
  • Carries a company cell phone and is on-call outside of normal working hours to provide emergency repair services.
  • Regular reliable full time attendance as scheduled.
  • The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent, and a journeyman electrician’s certificate.
  • At least two (2) years’ work experience in electrical maintenance, repair, calibration and installation of electrical equipment in a commercial setting.  
  • Associate Degree or two-year course certificate from a vocational school in either electrical and/or electronic disciplines may be substituted for work experience.
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak and read the English language.
  • Must have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Military security background check.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of trade occupational hazards and appropriate precautionary safety procedures, particularly as they pertain to work on high voltage electrical systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge for reading and interpreting of instrumentation, and electrical system equipment schematics and blueprints.
  • Skilled in care and use of standard and special electrical tools and testing equipment.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential in order to maintain records, review analytical results, track maintenance/repair, trends, and prepare correspondence.
  • Ability to anticipate and plan for expanded electrical needs.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to County purchasing procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a preventative maintenance program and maintain accurate maintenance records. 
  • Ability to work independently and respond appropriately to supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations as needed; days, nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in written and verbal form to management, co-workers, contractors, suppliers, power company representatives and factory representatives.
 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Work is performed indoors as well as outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions; some work requires being on the roofs of buildings, inside attics, floor crawlspaces. Position involves working from rooftops, inside attics, above ceilings, floor crawl spaces and basements.

This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.).   This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances.

This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions.  This position may require frequent lifting and carrying of 25-50lbs, and occasionally up to 100lbs.

Salary : $37,690 - $65,957
