Full Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Dermatology Coding and Billing Specialist to join our team. The specialist will be responsible for accurately coding dermatology procedures, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines, submitting claims, and managing reimbursement processes. The ideal candidate should have expertise in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding specific to dermatology and experience handling denials, appeals, and insurance follow-ups.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Assign accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes for dermatology procedures, including biopsies, excisions, MOHS surgery, cosmetic procedures, and laser treatments.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing policies.
- Submit and track insurance claims, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Review and resolve claim denials and work on appeals as needed.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits before services are rendered.
- Communicate with providers and staff to clarify documentation and coding discrepancies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and dermatology billing changes.
- Assist with patient billing inquiries, payment posting, and collections when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certification in medical coding (CPC, CCS-P, or equivalent preferred).
- Experience in dermatology coding and billing (minimum 1-2 years preferred).
- Proficiency in EHR/EMR systems and billing software (e.g., ModMed, eClinicalWorks, Kareo).
- Strong knowledge of Medicare allowable amounts, NCCI edits, and modifier usage.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with prior authorizations for dermatology treatments.
- Knowledge of cosmetic vs. medical necessity coding distinctions.
- Understanding of telehealth billing in dermatology.
