Position Summary
Bay FC is seeking a Director of Communications and Public Affairs. This individual will develop and execute comprehensive business communication strategies to elevate the team’s brand, manage media relations, and engage with fans and stakeholders. In addition, this role will be responsible for overseeing the Club’s public affairs strategy and execution as the Club looks to open their new state-of-the-art training facility on Treasure Island and one day build their own stadium in the Bay Area. This role will report direct to the Executive Vice-President of Communications, Community Impact, and Public Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement comprehensive public affairs outreach and engagement campaigns to help navigate the Club’s training facility and new stadium processes within local government and local, national, and global media
- Build strong relationships with local city and county officials throughout the Bay Area
- Develop a season-wide PR content strategy across multiple channels and platforms that reinforce Bay FC’s brand positioning, voice and objectives across the Club’s various business departments including corporate partners, ticketing, community impact, Foundation, and more
- Provide comprehensive media training for executives, coaches, players and staff to ensure successful press conferences, interviews and feature stories
- Design forward thinking communications frameworks to effectively manage both anticipated and unexpected situations, including crisis communications
- Cultivate relationships with local, national, and global media outlets while collaborating across departments to fulfill organizational communications requirements
- Act as a primary point of contact for business communications and public affairs
- Analyze communications metrics and prepare reports on effectiveness of strategies
- Drive internal communications strategies to ensure strong internal communications amongst employees
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of communications and/or public affairs PR – preferably in local government or professional sports
- Strong local media and local government relationships
- Outstanding communications skills with the ability to influence and persuade both verbally and in writing
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading and creative writing skills
- The ability to lead collaboratively and work within a network of complex relationships across many stakeholders
- Ability to work in both of our San Francisco and San Jose offices 3 days a week
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $125,000 - $140,000. Hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus. Actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
