Job Summary/Objective:
The Independent Living Assistant provides persons served with the assistance needed for them to live as independently as possible and have a meaningful life in their local community.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Assist with activities that promote a deep community connection.Assist individuals with getting in/out of a bed or wheelchair.Assist with personal grooming such as dressing/undressing, bathing, toileting and the grooming of hair and skin.Assist with medications.Assist with getting to medical appointments, shopping and social activities.Perform general household duties such as cleaning, cooking, changing bed linens, light gardening, laundry and ironing.Report all unusual incidents/emergency/crisis situations to Program Manager.Adhere to all policies and procedures.Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old.Possess genuine concern for and ability to work with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness.Ability to communicate with empathy and establish and maintain supportive relationships which promote freedom and choice.Excellent organizational, communication, computer, analytical and problem-solving skills. Self-directed and resourceful.Valid driver’s license.
Travel:
Daily travel to and from appointments, activities, and errands may be required in a company vehicle.
Physical Requirements:
Professional office environment that generates noise from computer equipment/peripherals.Possible exposure to health risks (violence and infectious diseases).Sometimes lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 25 lbs.Stooping, bending, turning, stretching, lifting and moving equipment.May be required to work variable hours/shifts.
