The Boilermaker 1 performs maintenance and installs equipment related to various types of towers, heat exchanges, heaters, and plant piping to blueprint specifications, using power tools and hand tools.
Essential Functions
- Design, install, and repair boilers used to heat water for generating electric power or providing heat in refineries
- Attach water tubes, stacks and liners, safety and check valves, and water and pressure gauges
- Connect fire tubes to head or water tubes to drain and headers of boilers
- Drill and tap holes for installation of studs
- Tighten bolts to assemble frames, using power or hand wrenches
- Bolts or screws accessories such as manholes, hand holes, fans, gauges, and valves to vessels
- Replaces defective parts, using power wrenches prying bars or hand tools
- May perform general piping work such as line breaking, installing blinds, gaskets
- May install equipment internals, packings, catalysts, and desiccants in vessels.
- Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 years’ experience as a boilermaker
- NCCER is required
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of towers, heaters, exchangers, and refinery piping
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
