JOB SUMMARY
The Carpenter constructs and repairs structural woodworks and equipment, working from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Install structures and fixtures
- Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials
- Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes
- Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes
- Build scaffolds and create and set forms for pouring concrete
- Build tunnel bracing or partitions in underground passageways to control the circulation of air to worksites
- Build concrete forms for tunnels, bridges, power plants, or sewer construction
- Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 years’ experience as a carpenter or in civil construction
SKILLS / KEY COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and / or fingers
- Work that includes moving and / or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
