The pipelayer is responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains
Essential Functions
- Ensures ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for pipes
- Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels
- Cuts pipe to required lengths, connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, or glue
- Install or repair sanitary or storm water sewer structures or pipe systems
- Covers pipes with sand, dirt, or other loose materials onto surfaces
- Pull out defective or misaligned pipes
- Inspect places where pipes are fitted together to ensure pipes are spaced out properly and according to specifications
- Drill holes in pipes for auxiliary lines
- Use magnetic or radio indicators
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 years’ experience in highway, bridge, sewer, and road construction
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
