SUMMARY: 

The PET/CT Technologist operates computed tomography (CT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner to produce imaging of patient's body for diagnostic purposes including invasive and non-invasive procedures, as directed by Radiologist. Enforces safety procedures while performing PET/CT services. Performs patient care duties associated with PET/CT procedures within scope of their licensure. Assists the Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist and Lead Receptionist, if applicable, with other duties as required. Seeking a full-time PET/CT Technologist for our medical imaging site located in Oakland, CA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Other duties may be assigned.


· Prepares and performs PET/CT imaging, operating equipment according to the laws and regulations governing the use of the equipment.

· Ensures that information essential to daily operations is passed between the technologists, receptionists, radiologist on duty, and Lead/Managers.

· Works with Site Director or Manager and Medical Director on timely ACR accreditation preparation and submission 

· Assists in the training and orientation of new employees, and ongoing training as required.

· Assists Site Manager and/or Director in the preparation of staff evaluations by providing input, if applicable.

· Follows site standard protocol and confers with Radiologist regarding symptoms/findings and protocols.

· Reviews exam orders for scheduling and protocol accuracy under the direction of the Medical Director or Supervising Radiologist 

· Acts as liaison with referring physician offices through personal interaction with staff and physicians.

· Performs equipment quality assurance checks/stats/reports, troubleshoots equipment problems, arranges repairs and preventative maintenance.

· Properly documents and informs supervisor of all adverse reactions and monitors patient safety and comfort. 

· Coordinates patient flow to maximize productivity, while maintaining a high level of patient care.

· Responds to minor patient concerns and ensures patient satisfaction, refers significant concerns to the Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist for response and inclusion in patient log.

· Assists in training for hardware and software upgrades.

· Assists in maintaining adequate supplies and insures appropriate cost controls.

· Assists in maintaining appropriate policies and procedure manuals, alerts Site Manager and/or Lead Technologist and Lead Receptionist, if applicable, to updates and monitors staff adherence to policies and procedures.

· Maintains and cleans equipment and work area and ensures that staff maintains standards.

· Prepares and administers contrast media and radiopharmaceuticals according to site-specific protocols and under the direction of the Radiologist.

· Adjusts and operates PET/CT equipment to scan designated anatomical area of patient.

· Assists with injections and ensures patient safety by following all protocols regarding the use of the pressure injector.

· Monitors patient safety and comfort.

· Interviews patient, explains procedures, prepares patient for exam, screens patient for contradictions, and transfers patient to exam area.

· Assists patient on to examination table and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by Physician.

· Draws-up contrast materials and prepares sterile trays. Coordinates delivery of calibrated doses for scheduled patients.

· Checks and reviews prior films/studies/history.

· Processes images to include, but not limited to, 3-D images.

· Operates all relevant equipment and computer applications to include, but not limited to, EHR, CR, and PACS.

· Practices safety procedures.

· Demonstrates age-related concerns in radiographing neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

· Ensures department meets all radiation safety/regulations, including proper documentation and technique when working with radioactive materials/patients.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  •   Graduate of an accredited 2 or 4-year Nuclear Medicine Program and hold an active CNMT or ARRT(N) Certification. NMCTB (CT) or ARRT (CT) Certification preferred. Must hold current California State permit to practice in Nuclear Medicine. Minimum 3 plus years of staff technologist experience with at least one year of experience as a full time PET technologist. Detailed knowledge of PET and CT equipment, protocols, radiation safety, cross-sectional anatomy, sterile procedures, and medical terminology.      General knowledge of first aid techniques. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate employees and prioritize work.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Required upon hire and for duration of employment:
  • Registered in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB)
  • Preferred: current CT Certification, American Registry of Radiologic Technology Advanced CT Certification, ARRT(CT), and/or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board Advanced CT Certification, NMTCB(CT) and/or Current California Radiologic Technology License (CRT) 
  • Current California State Nuclear Medical Technologist License 
  • Current CPR/BLS certificate (Healthcare Provider)
  • Advanced Venipuncture Techniques for Contrast Media Administration
