EMS Service Coordinator/Paramedic

POSITION SUMMARY:

The EMS Coordinator/Paramedic provides oversight to the Bay Mills Emergency Connection (BMEC) Services. This position will evaluate the effectiveness of the BMEC services program. The EMS Coordinator/paramedic has a wide range of duties including, staffing, directing, scheduling, training, budgeting, and coordinating emergency medical services staff providing coverage to the tribe and coverage area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide oversight and support to personnel at Bay Mills Emergency Connection.
2. Ensure proper staffing for Bay Mills Emergency Connection. Assist with staffing needs by posting open positions, interviewing candidates, orientation, and coordinating training as needed. Act as a mentor for students and interns.
3. Creates and maintains monthly shift schedule, time records, and disciplinary procedures when necessary for staff. Audit and submits timesheet records bi-weekly and submit corrections if needed.
4. Ensure evaluation of direct reports including probationary and annual staff evaluations. Could also include retraining or performance improvements, discipline per BMIC policy, etc.
5. Assist in ensuring clinical care is provided by reviewing charts, observing, and data analysis through professional standards review organization (PSRO).
6. Manages and maintains inventory per State and Federal regulations. Ordering, rotating, and restocking all EMS supplies.
7. Act as liaison for Bay Mills Emergency Connection and other services including local, state and federal agencies.
8. Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding licensing for vehicles and equipment.
9. Keep informed of events in the field, including accidents, injuries, breach of policy, inter-agency relations, morale, and superior/inferior performance.
10. Organize the daily operations of the program following Personnel Policies and Procedures as well as any funding agency requirements.
11. Assist with budget development and cost controls. Participate in capital budget item request for equipment in cooperation with BMHC administration.
12. Prepare and maintain all required program reports and analysis.
13. Ensure that Bay Mills Emergency Connection adheres to the E.U.P. Medical Control Authority protocols.
14. Ensure management of the fleet in regards to placement, maintenance, and recommended replacement of all emergency services vehicles and equipment.
15. Prepares and ensures proper flow of documentation, including billing packets generated from medical records for submission to the billing department for payment collection.
16. Functions as a paramedic, responding to medical emergency calls and provides basic first aid and advanced life support procedures.
17. Drives rescue vehicles and operates necessary medical equipment.
18. Submits bills, invoices, purchase requests into appropriate software for approval.
19. Must attend all mandatory internal trainings and meetings and any mandatory trainings designated through the Department Director and/or Human Resources.
20. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position’s essential functions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical constraints of pre-hospital care require that all employees be able to:

1. Pick up (dead lift) and carry 100lbs; individually in front of themselves at least 125ft; up and down a flight of stairs (consisting of 12 steps); set the “weight” down then with a partner: load 300lbs. (stretcher and patient) into the back of the ambulance.
2. Have sufficient dexterity to climb stairs, ladders, squat, and kneel without jeopardizing themselves, their partner, and/or the patient.
3. Visual acuity corrected to be able to read maps, medicine bottles, and/or ampules.
4. Hearing ability corrected to be able to distinguish conversation during high levels of noise distraction such as heard during operation of the ambulance during an emergency.
5. Overall health must be such as not to cause potential risk to themselves, their partners, and/or the patient.
6. If on medication, must be able to demonstrate no acute reaction or medical incident related to condition for a period of 12 months.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Current license as a Paramedic in the State of Michigan required.
2. Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by BMIC’s insurance carrier.
3. ACLS/PALS certified required.
4. 3-5 years direct supervisory experience required.
5. Must have 3 years’ experience working in an EMS capacity.
6. Must have 1-year direct budget experience as well as EMS billing experience.
7. Must have an excellent past work record.
8. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings if necessary.
9. Must be able to travel if needed.
10. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be flexible around the needs of the employer, which may include occasional evening and/or weekend hours or occasional travel for employer business.
