POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for coordinating climate and clean energy-related grants, programs, activities, and outreach for the Bay Mills Indian Community. Duties include grant management and administration, event and meeting management, and stakeholder engagement activities. This position will support and provide assistance to various climate and energy initiatives, work groups, and committees. This position will develop and manage climate and energy content for the BMIC website. This position will collect and interpret data to handle and thoroughly respond to communications and requests related to climate and energy. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Coordinates climate and clean energy projects, schedule project team meetings, chair BMIC Climate Committee
  2. Provides grants administration support and grant management including reporting, budget management, and workplan implementation.
  3. Develops communications and outreach related to BMIC climate and energy initiatives including developing and maintaining a clean energy dashboard on the Bay Mills website. Research and prepare related program reports and materials for dissemination on the web, in publications, and at relevant events. 
  4. Coordinates and tracks emerging projects and programs, including working with stakeholders on a workforce development program.
  5. Track climate pollution reductions measures including but not limited to greenhouse gas emission and reduction measures and air quality. Compile and report on this data.
  6. Lead data collection and data analysis related to climate change and recommend policy and program options, including development of an annual impact report.
  7. Coordinates with BMIC departments and Executive Council on issues related to climate and energy. Develop and maintain relationships with federal agencies, state agencies, tribal staff and NGO’s working on climate change.
  8. Monitor and provide analysis of legislative, administrative, judicial and policy initiatives relating to climate change. Conducts research to respond and assist with requests for consultation or tribal comments on policies and projects. 
  9. Seeks and applies for additional grant funding to support climate and energy initiatives.
  10. Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit with occasional standing and walking. Occasionally the employee must bend, balance, squat, kneel, push/pull, and crouch. The employee must be able to lift, move, and/or carry up to 25 pounds. This position may require working during adverse weather conditions.  Rarely, fieldwork and/or office duties may require the employee to begin early in the morning, work late into the evenings, and travel long distances. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Climate Science, Environmental Science/Studies, Energy Technologies, or other related fields.
  2. Experience with energy technologies, grant writing and management, reporting, and energy program development;
  3. Understanding of basic sustainability and climate science principles
  4. Ability to work with partners and other agencies
  5. Strong organization skills and ability to manage a diverse array of responsibilities/ activities
  6. Knowledge and experience in budget management and development
  7. Working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  8. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good technical writing, oral communication and presentation skills
  9. Demonstrates excellence in problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy;
  10. Must have an excellent past work record as demonstrated from reports from past employment references
  11. Must have demonstrated ability to communicate with all departmental employees, and guests or clients of the organization by phone, in person, or through correspondence.
  12. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position
  13. Must be able to travel when

Work Schedule:

Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be flexible around the needs of the employer, which may include occasional evening and/or weekend hours or occasional travel for employer business.
