What are the responsibilities and job description for the EMT Advanced position at BAY MILLS INDIAN COMMUNITY?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Advanced EMT will be expected to perform all department policies and procedures with demonstrated proficiency and competency, which Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) required for this level of licensure. The practice of the AEMT includes, but is not limited to: areas of diagnostics (patient assessment), treatment and management (oxygen therapy), definitive airway care, intravenous therapy, shock management, spinal cord and fracture management, patient triage and transportation, communication skills, both verbal and written with all other health c e providers as well as police and fire agencies and on-scene management, and education (community awareness, orientation, CPR, Self-help, guidance and instruction for less experienced). All patient care will be provided in accordance with the Eastern Upper Peninsula Medical Control Authority (EUPMCA) protocols. The AEMT will require minimal supervision in addition to providing quality patient care and supervision to medical first responders and AEMT-Basics. Cross training with a number of facilities and/or in-house functions will occur. While responding to emergency situations wil1 be the first priority, other duties may also be assigned. For example, staffing coordination, quality improvement, secretarial duties, service billing, safety/risk management functions, prevention, insurance processing, equipment and/or transportation needs.
Licensed Instructor Coordinators may include training coordination within their du· es. During slow periods of operation, the employee may be requested to assist other facilities. This will be coordinated with the EMS Service Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Vehicle operation, care and maintenance
- Patient history and assessment as outlined in EUPMCA protocols.
- Limited advanced patient care as outline in EUPMCA protocols.
- Patient transportation as outlined in EUPMCA protocols.
- Radio and written communication skill and technique as outlined in EUPM A protocols.
- Operate standard AEMT equipment and performs necessary steps for patient disentanglement.
- Mass casualty assessment and triage.
- Scene safety and control.
- Must be able to meet the physical constraints of the of job.
- Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position's essential functions.
- Must attend all mandatory trainings designated through the Department Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical constraints of pre-hospital care require that all employees be able to:
- Pick up (dead lift) and carry 100lbs; individually in front of themselves a least l00ft; up and down a flight of stairs (consisting of 12 steps); set the "weight" down then with a partner: load (stretcher and patient) into the back of the ambulance.
- Have sufficient dexterity to climb stairs, ladders, squat and kneel without jeopardizing themselves, their partner and/or the patient.
- Visual acuity corrected to be able to read maps, medicine bottles, and/or ampules.
- Hearing ability corrected to be able to distinguish conversation during high levels of noise distraction such as heard during operation of the ambulance during an emergency.
- Overall health must be such as not to cause potential risk to themselves, their partners, and/or the patient.
- If on medication, must be able to demonstrate no acute reaction or medic l incident related to condition for a period of 12 months.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires current applicable pre-hospital license in the State of Michigan, through MDHHS, which must be maintained throughout the duration of employment with BMIC/Bay Mills Emergency Connection.
- Must be BLS/CPR certified.
- Must meet EUPMCA requirements as identified in EUPMCA Preferred to be signed off by EUPMCA Medical Control Director.
- Must be able to organize work, set priorities, work well with others, and maintain confidentiality.
- Utilize effective communication mechanisms consistently.
- Candidate is flexible regarding staffing needs to meet patient requirements.
- Candidate must have a good driving record and valid Michigan driver's license.
- Must meet or exceed all physical requirements of the job.
- Must have an excellent past work record.
- To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions category of the position description.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be flexible around the needs of the employer, which may include occasional evening and/or weekend hours or occasional travel for employer business.
