What are the responsibilities and job description for the DISTRICT TREASURER - IMMEDIATE OPENING position at Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School?
REPORTS TO: School Committee and Superintendent-Director and/or their designee.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Effectively handles all District funds in accordance with School Committee policy and all state and federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitors all incoming and outgoing funds, and prepares monthly statements for the School Committee outlining cash flow and any anticipated borrowing needs.
Monitors expenditures consistent with budget appropriations.
Administers the District’s investment program, including investing funds to provide maximum interest income.
Makes recommendations on accounting policies with respect to maximum security of funds.
Provides a bond to ensure the faithful performance of designated duties, in the amount required by state law. The School Committee covers the cost of the bond premium.
Takes responsibility for all receipts and disbursements of the District’s funds and suggests policies to execute such transactions.
Serves as the negotiating officer for all District borrowing, in consultation with the Superintendent-Director, and presents a report to the School Committee at the next meeting.
Stays up to date on laws and regulations governing the District’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with the Massachusetts General Laws.
Stay up to date on banking practices, interest rates, and economic conditions to make informed financial decisions.
Oversees the annual audits to ensure they are conducted in accordance with audit procedures and reports the results to the School Committee upon completion.
Presents an annual financial report to the School Committee, detailing excess and deficiency accounts, interest earned, outstanding expenditures, anticipated closing balances, and other key financial indicators of fiscal responsibility.
Performs any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent-Director and/or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in financial analysis and decision making.
Proven ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Must be authorized to work in the United States
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required.
Experience in all aspects of school finance.
Proficiency with excel and google spreadsheets and familiarity with accounting software and financial reporting systems required.
Certification as a Massachusetts Municipal Treasurer may be substituted for a degree in accounting.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointed annually by the School Committee through a vote at the June meeting.
Subject to an annual performance evaluation by the School Committee at the May meeting.
SALARY:
$23,500 per Fiscal Year. Salary will be prorated from date of hire through June 30, 2025 for FY25.
