BASIC JOB SUMMARY:

The overall purpose of this job is to install and repair advanced fiber optic, broadband and voice services offered by TEC. Job requires familiarity with advanced industry concepts, practices, and procedures. Performs a variety of tasks. Relies on experience, judgment, and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by the company.

  • Install and support company products and services including fiber drops, ONT’s (Optical Network Terminal), broadband routers, modems and gateways and associated devices that are used in delivery of high-speed fiber DSL and Wi-Fi services
  • Ability to install, test and maintain ONT’s, routers, modems, Internet Protocol (IP) switches and home networking equipment and the understanding of interoperability between various networking segments/systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve/repair comprehensive customer issues associated with company products and services including fiber, DSL, Wi-Fi, broadband, data and voice
  • Assess where trouble is located including traveling by vehicle (requiring a valid driver's license) to customer facility and checking wiring from fiber distribution, through drop to ONT and into the home or business
  • Perform installation of fiber services into residents and business locations. Including but not limited to installing wiring from the outside Fiber Network Interface Device (NID) into the residence and terminating into the ONT. Connecting the ONT to the residential gateway and preparing the service for customer use
  • Operate Facilities Management (FM) system including updating and closing trouble tickets and service orders. Proficient in use of computer for various tasks including processing trouble tickets and service orders.
  • Ability to use Facilities Management Mapping (FMM) system to identify where distribution access points are. Also, ability to mark up maps with as built drawings and submit to mapping to be inserted into our mapping records
  • Proficient in the use of advanced test equipment used in conjunction with troubleshooting fiber, data, voice and IP circuits. Performs variety of tests on electronic components to determine functioning level and capacity and store test results in customer folders in FM system. Including the ability to operate a fiber fusion splicer
  • Requires high level of customer contact to ensure customer satisfaction. Ability to understand customer needs and make modifications and recommendations for improvement to systems with company products and services
  • May be responsible for the emergency repairs of all fiber optic cables in the system including splicing of large count fiber optic cables
  • Follow Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) / Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) 586A guidelines
  • Responsible for the adherence to all standard operating procedures to promote safety of all employees
  • May be responsible for operating safely and efficiently the following equipment and vehicles: cable plow, ladders and aerial bucket trucks
  • Show proficiency in skills which may include acquiring certain educational/industry certifications and training
  • Assist in promoting, marketing, selling and supporting all products and services of TEC

Education/Experience - Requires an understanding of communication equipment construction, installation, and repair with written and verbal communication skills usually acquired through the attainment of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience and approximately two years’ experience, with on-the-job training. Must understand Local Area Networking (LAN) and home networking.
