What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Miller position at Bay State Milling Co.?
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Gain comprehensive understanding of operations and function of all departments in producing high-quality flour safely and efficiently.
- Operate and manage milling machinery to process grains into finished products according to production schedules and quality standards.
- Direct department personnel in completing their daily responsibilities as necessary.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on milling equipment to ensure proper functioning and minimize downtime.
- Troubleshoot technical problems that arise during the milling process and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including milling parameters, inventory levels, and quality control data in ERP system.
- Participate and grow Continuous Excellence goals and initiatives within department and plant wide.
- Collaborate with Processing team members, maintenance technicians, quality control personnel, and others to achieve production goals.
- Ensure utmost compliance to HACCP, GMP, and other food safety programs.
- Assist in the conception and execution of plant capital projects.
- Perform shift work as necessary to gain experience and understanding of production processes.

- Possess a B.S. degree from a four-year college or university or 5 years or more in a grain processing facility.
- Strong quantitative skills.
- Availability for off-hours calls may be necessary.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Problem-solving mindset and eagerness to develop technical skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
B.S. degree from a four-year college or university. If one does not possess a degree, a minimum of 5 years of grain processing experience is required in addition to a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Capable of following and communicating written and verbal instructions in English. Ability
to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write in English and complete reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables at any given time.
