Medical Oncology Veterinary Technician

Bay State Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Services is looking for an experienced veterinary technician to join our medical oncology team. The BSVESS team is made up of a talented and fun group of veterinary professionals who truly care about their patients and clients. Position Overview:
Technicians perform a variety of animal-health duties to ensure quality patient care. Technicians should be proficient in basic nursing duties including but not limited to patient assessment and monitoring, phlebotomy, IVC placement, medication/fluid administration, medical calculations, etc. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of oncology and internal medicine and the ability remain calm during stressful situations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional, compassionate nursing care to oncology patients utilizing a variety of technical skills including, diagnostic sample collection, intravenous catheter placement, chemotherapy administration
- Assist the doctors with physical exams and procedures of feline and canine patients
- Work under the guidance of the oncologist to relay information to clients
- Schedule new patient consultations, recheck examinations, and technician outpatient appointments for the oncology service
- Coordinate daily scheduled oncology appointments, emergency oncological cases, as well as inpatient consultations for canine and feline patients
- Keep current in Oncology trends through CE attendance
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in veterinary practice with a focus in oncology, anesthesia, or internal medicine (required)
- Veterinary Technician Certification, and/or Veterinary Technician Specialty in Oncology (preferred)
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills
- Compassion and love of animals
- Ability to communicate with clients empathetically and professionally
- Strong veterinary knowledge and skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
- Proficient in medical math calculations (drugs, conversions, etc.)
- Proficient time management, ability to problem solve, learn, and handle multiple tasks
- Enthusiastic team player with a patient, and positive professional attitude
- Must be able to lift and restrain pets of at least 40 pounds, and work on feet most of the day
- Must have the ability to adjust to changes in the environment and able to handle stress in a calm manner
- Must be able to anticipate patient needs and be detail oriented due to the high level of quality medicine
