Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for animals and a commitment to providing exceptional care and service. As a Kennel Assistant, you will be responsible for the daily care of pets in our facility, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort while also assisting pet owners with their needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate care for all animals in our hospital, including boarding, medical, surgical, and day-stay patients.
- Walk and monitor dogs multiple times per day, ensuring their comfort and wellbeing.
- Administer medications as directed and ensure accurate documentation.
- Closely observe animals for signs of illness or distress and promptly report concerns to medical staff.
- Maintain cleanliness of kennels, hospital areas, and patient housing according to sanitation protocols.
- Work cooperatively with the veterinary and technician teams to support patient care.
- Ensure all pets receive love, attention, and personalized care during their stay.
- Assist with dog handling during playtime and training sessions.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with pet owners regarding their pets’ needs and well-being.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and maintaining records.
- Participation in team development trainings or meeting.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong customer service skills to interact positively with pet owners and team members.
- Proficiency in dog handling techniques to ensure safe interactions with various breeds.
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be available to work weekends and some holidays
- Prior experience in an animal hospital or general animal care is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Able to lift 40 lbs and handle large dogs safely
