What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Assistant (School Readiness) - 24.5 hrs/wk position at Bay View Elementary and Early Childhood Center?
This position will be at Bay View Elementary and the Proctor Early Childhood Center and is open to internal and external candidates.
Title: Educational Assistant
Salary Range: Step 16, Local 66 Contract
Term: 24.5 hours/week – 182 days
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- May work with the student(s) for extended periods of time in a room away from staff and students.
- Supervise student activities on the playground, monitor behavior, and enforce playground rules.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal behavior management plans.
- Must be able to track student progress as directed by the instructor.
- May need to work with the individual student(s) with special needs while at the same time working with any and all students in this program.
- Monitor students in the lunchroom as needed, and enforce lunchroom rules
- Attend to medical and personal needs of students not requiring attention by licensed personnel including toileting of students.
- Assist office personnel
- Perform clerical duties as assigned – including MA billing
- Assist teachers as directed by the building principal
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
General Expectations
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community
- Ability to independently supervise students
- Computer proficiency
- Must be able to commute between buildings
- Must have a valid MN Driver’s License and have a vehicle to travel
- Must be “highly qualified” (2-year postsecondary certification, Paraprofessional Portfolio or must have passed the Paraprofessional Test)
- Possess a high standard of work ethic
- Good sense of humor
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and, simultaneously, talk and hear using a mobile communication device (i.e., walkie-talkie, cell phone).
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and stoop, kneel, walk, bend, and squat.
- Ability to sit on the floor and move rapidly to a standing position and run quickly to redirect students. (Get up and down very quickly to accommodate students.)
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Required restraining abilities 60 pounds (will train)
Work Environment
- Moderately noisy, with some dirt and dust and some temperature extremes including outside recess and lunchroom.
