This Opportunity
We are seeking a motivated, detail-orientated Health and Safety Specialist to join our team! You will maintain programs to ensure compliance, perform workplace inspections, maintain accurate safety documentation and more! Success in this role requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask and take a proactive approach.
Your Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Management
- Promote a safety culture by communicating goals, best practices, and achievements to employees and management.
- Manage the driver-related portions of the DOT program, including maintaining DOT driver qualification files, conducting driving record checks and Clearinghouse queries, managing drug testing processes, and other tasks as needed.
- Collaborate with HR to manage drug testing pools, annual medical appointments, and ensure workforce compliance at specific sites. Support new hire onboarding by coordinating certain aspects of DISA’s driver qualification file program.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections to identify hazards or deficiencies and collaborate with management for resolution.
- Issue footwear vouchers and prescription safety eyewear requests as needed.
- Partner with the Corporate Safety Director to review, edit, and approve Site Safety and Health Plans.
Training and Development
- Manage the internal training program including tracking employees’ training progress, enroll employees in online and practicum classes, coordinate in-house training and training providers, and conduct training sessions as needed.
- Maintain and update training profiles based on personnel changes.
- Collect and maintain records of training certifications, ensuring accurate documentation and easy accessibility
- Support safety training efforts, including managing certifications and developing materials.
Reporting and Compliance
- Create and distribute monthly safety reports.
- Maintain OSHA 300 records
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by completing reports, posting notifications, and maintaining accurate records.
- Completes pre-qualification safety packets for companies that subcontract with Bay West.
- Routinely reads, interprets, and analyzes EHS information, laws, and technical journals.
Incident Management
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; recommend and implement corrective actions.
- Provide on-site field support, including periodic safety audits.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) or related field
- 1 - 3 years of industrial and/or construction EHS experience
- Valid driver’s license with clear motor vehicle record
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) / Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) credential or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST) preferred
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, or ability to earn within 60 days of hire
Physical Requirements
- Frequent reaching, grasping, and handling of items, and visually and aurally perceiving attributes of objects and materials on a regular basis without restrictions
- Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
- While protected by appropriate safety controls, occasionally be exposed to non-hazardous and hazardous work environments including contaminated air, soil, dust, fumes, smoke, and other toxins
Travel Requirements
- Travel throughout the United States is expected and can be up to 5-10% of time and includes overnight travel to remote project locations.
